“The Reykjavik Roundtable on Human Rights 2016 will review the current state of global human rights compliance and enforcement. At the Roundtable, prominent individuals from international courts, politics and academia, will discuss the role of international institutions, states, and non-state actors in preventing and halting human rights abuses.

The emphasis will be on four themes: (1) the potential for reform of international institutions as part of a global rights agenda; (2) the tension between geopolitical interests and the institutionalization of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine; (3) The interplay between international governance, state prerogatives, and non-state involvement in human rights protection; (4) the role of trade unions, NGOs and the responsibility of transnational corporations for human and labor rights violations.”

Summit Location

Based in Reykjavik, Iceland, the conference will be hosted at the Official Residence of the President of Iceland, the Parliament of Iceland, the National Heritage Building of Iceland, the Government Reception House, and the H÷fdi House.

Summit Speakers and Delegates for the summit will include members of national parliaments, members of the judiciary, representatives from global governance institutions, senior acadamics from the fields of international law and human rights, representatives of civil society and the public sector.

Participation in the conference is open to governmental & diplomatic officials, academics, journalists, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, young professionals and students as well as other interested individuals from across the world.

Certificate of Attendance - Conference participants will be awarded an official certificate of attendance upon completion of the program, which will provide details of the speakers who took part and the topics discussed. Each certificate will be signed by members of the Conference Committee.

The Summit Committee encourages academic research and analysis of issues related to the goals of the Conference. The Conference Committee would therefore like to welcome the participants of the conference to submit a paper they would like to be considered for presentation at the conference as well as being included in the proposal document that will be issued following the conference and will be sent to all governments and leaders of the international community worldwide.
