The Nordic Initiative
For a Diplomatic Accord in Israel and Palestine
Overview
The upcoming gathering in Edinburgh will mark the official launch of “The Nordic Initiative for a Diplomatic Accord in Israel and Palestine.” This effort, guided by both moral responsibility and diplomatic determination, aims to end the current violence in Gaza and support a lasting solution to the long-standing and complex conflict in the region.
Inspired by the enduring values of the Nordic countries, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and strong international cooperation, the Initiative calls for an end to violence, relief for those suffering, and the prevention of further ethnic harm. It represents a renewed commitment to peace, offering a clear and practical framework to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and negotiation.
Building on decades of Nordic work in international law, human rights, and diplomacy, the Initiative seeks to create conditions for constructive discussion, reduce tensions, and support the careful pursuit of a negotiated two-state solution based on fairness, security, and mutual recognition.
