Event Overview

Nowadays the world is facing a global threat, which is testing not only the way in which governments deal with pandemics, but also the way governments and public international institutions interact with one another. The lack of international mobilization and mismanagement have caused a spread of the disease worldwide, requiring action on a global level. However, the situation caught most international leaders by surprise and there is no specific treatment or vaccine for humans, a fact which has decelerated the international response.

In this sense, the problem gives rise to two different perspectives. On the one hand, as a result of globalization, highly infectious diseases can spread from their point of origin to other areas across the globe in a matter of hours, irrespective of borders. On the other hand, it is now more important than ever to provide a unique international response in order to combat Ebola more efficiently and quickly, through cooperation and common measures to ensure its long term success.

In this regard, the event entitled “Ebola the Global Threat: Facilitating Effective Response to Global Health Threats” will bring together young people and students, together with professionals, in order to explore how to contain the virus and raise awareness to facilitate a global discussion on matters pertaining to Global Health Security.
